    PSA. Three cells in Sector 8 lost message tapes this month and it wasn't damp. Kestrel ground-mapping radar is strong enough to partially degauss tape if it's stored near a window or a roof. Store your tapes low, in a metal tin, ideally a biscuit tin with the lid on.

    Old trick from the ham days: wrap the tin in chicken wire and ground it to a water pipe. Every loop has an end, and so does a magnetic field.

    Tested Deadair's cage method with a salvaged Kestrel radar module on the bench. Unprotected tape: 40 per cent signal loss. Caged tin: nothing measurable. The old man wins again.
